The function of the Investigations, Intelligence and Market Surveillance Department is to identify and expose criminal activities in the capital market, and to investigate suspected criminal offenses, and administrative violations related to the capital market.
The department is staffed by investigators the majority of whom are attorneys or accountants by profession, and market surveillance personnel the majority of whom are economists.
The Market Surveillance Unit's activities are conducted using computerized and other control systems to identify unusual activities in trading on and outside the Stock Exchange which could be indications of crimes or breaches of the Securities Law. In addition to these activities, the unit conducts various checks on an ongoing basis which provide qualitative and quantitative information to support the decision-making processes in the ISA on trading-related matters.
